IPL 2024 Auction:

A total of 72 players were handed an IPL contract on Tuesday with 10 teams splurging a combined amount of INR 230.45 crore. Uncapped India cricketer Shubham Dubey and Sameer Rizvi's fortunes turned overnight after RR and CSK picked them up for ₹5.8 crore and ₹8.4 crore respectively. M Shahrukh Khan and Kumar Kushagra also had a huge payday after Mitchell Starc became the costliest player in the history of IPL, going past his captain Pat Cummins' record set barely an hour ago. KKR splurged a whopping ₹24.75 crore to rope in Starc while Cummins was picked up by SRH for ₹20.5 crore. Indian pacers Umesh Yadav and Shivam Mavi went for ₹5.8 crore and 6.4 crore respectively to GT and LSG. New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell came close with ₹14 crore. He was picked up by CSK. PBKS broke the bank for Harshal Patel, who was bought for ₹11.75 crore. CSK got stuck in with the all-rounders, picking Shardul Thakur ( ₹4 crore) and Rachin Ravindra (1.8 crore) in the second set. West Indies T20 captain Rovman Powell was sold for a whopping ₹7.40 crore to RR after a fierce bidding war between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders. Powell, who had a base price of ₹1 crore, was the first player to be sold in IPL 2024 auction. There were no takers for Rilee Rossouw but Harry Brook was snapped up by DC for ₹4 Crore. There was another bidding war for Australia's Travis Head between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Finally, the World Cup final hero, whose base price was ₹2 crore, was sold for Rs. 6.8 crore to SRH.
Few takers for overseas keepers and spinners:
Quite expectedly, there were very few takers for the overseas keepers and spinners as the likes of Josh Inglis, Kusal Mendis, Adil Rashid and Mujeeb Ur Rahman went unsold. In the accelerated auction, uncapped Australian left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson grabbed attention after Gujarat Titans acquired him for 10 crore, while the likes of international cricketers in Rassie van der Dussen, Jimmy Neesham, Michael Bracewell, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson all went unsold. GT also bagged uncapped wicketkeeper Robin Minz for INR 3.6 crore.
